Professional Engineer Application Process through IEM

1) Application for IEM Corporate Member (MIEM)

a) Submitting Application MIEM Application Forms

There are two (2) types of MIEM application process.  Conventional and Enhancement process.

i) Conventional PI Process (Valid until 31 Dec 2017) : 

Procedure

• Submit the following forms in duplicate:

     PDF version (Procedure, Checklist, Form IEM/PI (1), IEM/PI (2))  
     Word Version (Form IEM/PI(1) item 1-11,    Form IEM/PI(1) item 12)  

ii) Enhanced PI Process (Effective from 1st Jan 2018)

 Procedure

• Submit the following forms in duplicate:

 -  IEM PI A100 (Professional Interview Application Form)

 -  IEM PI A300 (MIEM Application Form)

 -  IEM PI A401 (Training & Experience-Portfolio of Evidence)

 -  Technical Report

• Submit supporting documents:

 -  BEM Registration Letter/Certificate as a Graduate Engineer (Election cases)

 -  Degree certificates and academic transcripts 

    (Certificates from overseas universities issued in foreign languages must be accompanied 

      by translation from University Registrar/Embassy Officials)

• Payment of PI fees:- 

       Inclusive of 6% GST

        -   RM 159.00 (Graduate member) 

        -   RM 212.00 (Non-graduate member)

Guidance Notes

After the application is approved by the IEM Board, the applicant name will be circulated in IEM Bulletin for a month before an interview process.

• Kindly be informed that The IEM Professional Interview (PI) fee would be increased as follows effective 1 January 2018:

1. Graduate Member : RM 318.00 (inclusive of 6% GST)
2. Non-Graduate Member : RM 424.00 (inclusive of 6% GST)

b) Interview Process

There are two session in interview which is Essay written and Q & A.

a) Essay questions.

There are two types of essay question to be answered by the candidate:

i)  Essay no 1:  The Candidate have to choose one of the given 13 questions related to the code of ethics

In my case, I have chosen question no 8.  Here is my  essay for question no 8 .

ii) Essay no 2: 
This essay is related to the discipline of the candidate. 
In my case (electrical), the interviewer ask me to write an essay about " membudayakan penjimatan tenaga elektrik" . 
Here is my essay
 i)  Membudayakan amalan penjimatan tenaga elektrik.   
 ii) Huraikan kepentingan tenaga boleh diperbaharui sebagai sumber tenaga alternatif pada masa hadapan

2) Application for Professional Engineer (BEM)

Then after the candidate successfully awarded corporate member from the IEM, the candidate needs to apply for  an upgrading from BEM Graduate Member to Professional Engineer (PEng) by submitting the " Application for Upgrading to Profesional Engineer":
